Managing Allergies in School
Benedict’s Law
Following the introduction of Benedict’s Law in September 2026, outlined below are the steps we have taken to strengthen our allergy safety systems and procedures across the school.
Benedict's Law is a set of mandatory statutory protections designed to improve allergy safety and anaphylaxis management in schools. It is designed to equip schools to prevent tragedies and respond to emergencies.
The link below details our Allergy Policy 2026 - 2027 which clearly sets out how children with allergies are supported and how we work in partnership with families.
All staff complete annual anaphylaxis training ensuring they are confident in recognising and responding to the signs of an allergic reaction.
All prescribed adrenaline auto-injectors (often referred to as EpiPens) are stored in a central, clearly marked location. Each child’s Allergy Action Plan and Individual Healthcare Plan will be kept alongside their medication and will be reviewed regularly.
Where EpiPens are taken off site for trips, or returned to parents/carers, a clear signing-in and signing-out process is in place to ensure the safe transfer of medication.
In addition, the school now holds an emergency set of EpiPens (0.15mg and 0.3mg). These may be used in an emergency for anyone experiencing anaphylactic symptoms, including situations where an individual does not have their own prescribed device available.
These steps are designed to strengthen our approach to managing allergies and to ensure that every child is kept as safe as possible whilst in our care.
